For me, i have heaps.
Something For Kate - Desert Lights
You Am I - Convicts.
Ben Kweller - Ben Kweller
Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People say i am, That's What i'm Not.
Dresden Dolls - Yes, Virgina
The Racounteurs - Broken Boy Soldiers.
Eskimo Joe - Black Fingernails, Red Wine
Bob Evans - Suburban Songbook.
All favourites of mine from this year. SFK and You Am I take out the Aus Album of the Year for me, with the Raconteurs or Ben Kweller taking my international award. But since i don't have awards to give, i'll just say they are the standouts for my favourites.

Alot of people on here have only mentioned albums from bands that are on the charts? Am I in a forum filled with pop/mainstream/emo listeners?

Just think about it logically. If an album doesn't make the charts, less people have bought it, and less people have heard it. It is therefore almost certain that any sizable survey population will result in the same albums recieving more mentions, due to more people having experience of them.
The best album of the year may have been recorded by 1 man and his musical dog, but if only 75 people bought copies, it is unlikely to win many polls.

It's all a matter of opinion. I happen to think that Westlife are the biggest scar on the face of music, but plenty would disagree with me. Sadly, you can't really discuss music being good as a fact, no matter how strongly you feel about it, as it just comes down to personal preference. Just because you think it's better, doesn't necessarily mean it is.
I know where you're coming from, with regards to more skilful composition and innovation being more deserving of recognition, and I fully agree. I was just trying to point out that the reason most stuff is in the charts (for albums at least), is because it is the most popular, and therefore most well thought of, material around. It's why people buy it in the 1st place.
