bass is fairly easy. i can play guitar but struggle because i have massive hands and fingers. i only bought a bass about 6 months ago and i find it just as much fun and twice as easy to play. try playing these:
pink floyd - money
no doubt - sunday morning
green day - longview
the 12 bar blues
nerd - backseat love

only a guitarist would say that
anyone can play bass but playing bass well is an artform
if i had any tips learn some old greenday(dookie, kerplunk insomniac) songhey'll be challenging at first but you'll get better really quick.:D

Bass is so boring IMO. After playing the electric guitar bass is just so easy and well... boring. You can't make it sound good on it's own like you can with guitar, bass always needs other instruments. Each to their own but if you like playing bass after you learn (which I recommend you do) you should get yourself an electric guitar. You will find it will be harder top play but if you where good at bass you will pick it up no problem, you ill also have more fun playing guitar.

It is fun if it is the first instrument that you play but if you have played any other guitar it is actually quite boring and yes I am very good at guitar, but I don't need to prove myself to you.

i doubt youre very good. not everyone on this forum can be very good. i learnt how to play guitar first and bass riffs are just as fun as any other in my opinion. i have a mate who is easily the best guitarist ive ver seen in person. better than cheney even. he can do absolutely anythign at absolutely any speed. he has alot of fun playing bass. hes not too much of a pompous to pretend bass is for crap epople either

Did I ever say it was crap? I said it is boring in my f'in opinion! I'm sorry that your opinion is different to mine but I like you am entitled to express my opinion and at least I am letting you express your's, the same can't be said for you.
And I am sure your mate is very good as I am but he may be more interested in bass then what I am. And if we are going to do this whole 'mate' thing, the person who I learned guitar from happens to be the best guitarist I know. Not only can he play very fast but he can also play very complex stuff such as classical guitar (he is now starting to teach me that and it's techniques are so hard) and he like me does not like bass. As I have said though, each to their own.

yeah im sorry, im just sick of everyone going oh imcool, bass sucks. youre a loser for playing it. out of 10 on the guitar, i would say im a 4. i only paly it for fun and really only like playing riffs and cool songs. again i apologise for being a knob, its more of a reflex to trendy ****s who like to put learners down for not picking up a guitar and being yngwie malmsteen

Greatness is not measured only in how fast or the complexity of the stuff you play.

Bass is an annoying instrument to play by yourself if your trying to play well known songs as the basslines arn't usually as recognisable as the main rif. Improv on a bass is always good though.

I know that but you should here him play, he is awesome. He is also very creative, though he does not write much music he still can just pull a good riff from nowhere and can just pop out a solo any time. He has been playing for 20 years so he has a lot more experience than any of us would.
