Sorry guys if this is the wrong forum, but I thought people posting in this forum may be able to help me. I've been dying to play this game, but it isn't working on my computer. I have windows XP and I think that may be the problem. When I run the game it goes to the intro screen, then it cuts out saying it could not load a particular file in the SFX folder I think. I've tried running it in "windows 95" compatibility, and I still have no luck. I'm running it on the CD, cos it doesn't let me install it.

Anyone else had these problems? I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

It's in the GFX folder, a file called LOADING.LBM. I don't know how to replace it, I've tried cutting it but it won't let me paste it cos it's denied cos it's running off the CD. It wont let me install it because it cant load that LOADING.LBM file. Any suggestions?

Alan

I'm an avid "old games" collector myself, I don't mind sharing some tips. Setup a search on websites like ebay.com.au or trademe.co.nz - both of these sites get loads of listings and both of them will email you when new listings that match your search get posted. I've seen ARL96 turn up numerous times on both websites so don't stress, you'll get a crack at it.

Just remember to check out the feedback on the seller - make sure they've got loads of positives (I rarely buy off anyone with less than a thousand) and few / no negatives. Then you should be ok. Just remember, you are dealing with another person, not a shop, so you need to take precautions - don't send them your credit card details or anything like that.

If you haven't traded over ebay or trademe before, I'd suggest getting some tips from someone who has before you take the plunge.

Hope that helps! :)

There are websites about gameplay and the game. However, if you are specifically after a website containing information about downloading the software this is in breech of forum rules by advertising software piracy. Alan the boss has already stated this cannot be discussed!

Oh come off it Alan! Are you even sure it is even illegal? If so it would be nothing short of ridiculous! Snes and megadrive games haven't been on the market in 10 years! The only way you could possibly get one legitimately is second hand at a garage sale or something equally luck dependant!
I can understand it with current or even PS1 generation games, as you are denying a developer money, but the games of this era are no longer in production and haven't been for over a decade! It simply cannot be considered pirating if the licensed software has completely ceased to exist on the market at first hand value!

Listen mate, snes games are easier to download than anything else on the net, just do a google search and I'm sure you'll find it... Other than that you'll have to get it second hand through ebay if you're racked with guilt over the prospect of breaking this joke of a law (if it is even against the law at all!).

The law is the law - it's not up to you, me or your mum to decide which ones you follow. It's the law. Follow 'em all or face the consequences.

Lobby your MP or start a petition - until the law is changed, well, see my previous comment.

Why would I bother? No big game company would ever be bother chasing down rom downloads from games that haven't been on the market in over a decade... It would be a waste of everyone's time and THEIR money. If it really is against the law, then it's a law akin to J walking on a quiet country road...
Anway, on a technical level it is legal... If you own a copy of the original game and download it, it's ok because your allowd to backup software... So even if you give away the original game to a friend you alloud to have the rom etc still because it's your backup.

There are ways around it.

If you choose to break the law, that's your business. If you choose to break it on this website or entice / enable other people to do so via this website, it becomes my business.

I'm not in NZ :D

Don't worry though Alan, I'm not a supporter of Piracy... I'll be buying your game just as I did the original. But when it comes to this level of "pirating" (eg games that can longer make anyone any money), all we're really discussing is semantics, because no one is going to bother commiting time and energy in enforcing the law at that level

Alan

While I do appreciate what you are saying, determining legality based on whether or not the Police will bother to pursue you is, well, flawed - in my opinion.

Fair enough... I can see what you mean on a larger scale, when one looks at what the United States do in places like Guantanamo Bay simply because they think international law doesn't apply to them...

wow this is an old thread lol i was searching for a review for arl96 to show a guy who asked me about it (younger generation) i own the original CD but havent been able to get it working since i got windows XP
Im not going to saying anything about the rom download piracy laws except that there are some older games you can download legit, but only if the company has stated so (they will usally have the game avaliable on their website)
i loved this game and if it wasnt for the dodgy controlpad setup i would have kept my old computer to play it on (2 joysticks in dos only gives u 2 buttons each) and if you try to use 4 usb controlpads in the win95 version it just crashes
i dont really know if im alowed to say this but i will (people derserve to play games they have paid for)
If your abit cluey with dos and emulators u can emulate it (the original CD) on dosbox
you will need a really fast computer though as it turns a P4 only into a 486
I dont suggest anyone try to download this game because that would be illegal, but there were an awful lot of copies released (they rereleased it in 2000) and if u checkout your local secondhand games store its a good chance it will be there
there is also a sega genisis version of this game, but i would not recomend bothering with it cause it is absolute crap comparied with the PC version (no commentary, low resolution, slow gameplay)
It is a far better game than RL1 but i have to say RL2 is better than arl96 in just enough ways to make it a better game (well done fellas, finally lol) so if you own RL2 dont bother with arl96 cause you will only be dissapointed (fatty special comments are pretty good though)
you guys really need put this feature in RL3 though (i dont understand if were indeed aware of this game how RL1 could have turned out so bad)
Take a good look at it sidhe this game wasnt just popular because it was Rugby League (it had heart)

PS have a dig at getting both rabs and vossy for the next game
ricky pointings cricket has over 5 different comintators (it gets old pretty fast with just one, no matter how many lines of dialog you pump into him)

How come ThornoSR got banned for 3 weeks for asking help on Piracy, yet, when these people on this thread only got banned for 72 hrs!!!

Lucas
13-05-2006, 04:13 PM
im not giving help on piracy im simply trying to help people get the original copy of the game running on a new PC (and advising where to buy it)
those other guys were just tip toeing around the subject thats why they werent banned for long it was more of a warning i guess
PS i hope i didnt overstep the boundaires (it was unintentional)

Its a bit of column A and a bit of column B! I chipped my PS2 a few years back and it was the worst decision I could make, the reliability of the console diminished and it eventually refused to play PAL games! However my mate got his chipped and its been 'good as gold' ever since. I threw mine out and bought another one (without a chip) and now I couldn't be happier.
