Iosia Soliola v Mark Gasnier
Now saying Soliola is better than Gasnier may raise a few eyebrows. But to tell you the truth he is as good if not better. He has been playing for an under-achieving Roosters side and has still performed consistantly well. On the other hand Gasnier has been playing for the Dragons, a red hot side that just about made the GF.
If you think that Gasnier will run all over Soliola then you either think that Gasnier is the best player in the world, or you just haven't seen enough of Soliola play. Give the best centre in the world a little respect!
(Please note that I am not being biased, I'm serious)

Soliola has been the best player for us but wont be as good for NZ. At the Roosters him and roberts have a wonderful communication system down the right and play wonderfully together scoring 60% of the Roosters tries. He will go well but not as good as he could

LMFAO Gaz should destroy him, I mean Soliola is a very talented player and Mark Gasnier is overated, but there is no way in hell I would even think about comparing the 2. Gasnier is on a much higher level than Soliola.
Give it a few years when Soliola reaches his full potential and then I might think about it.

Man, thanks for that "high quality" post, it sure made me laugh as well (for all the wrong reasons). Anyway there is nothing better to see go down than an over-confident, big-headed, arrogant Aussie.
Enjoy the Soliola show on Saturday night.

The poll is asking who you think will play on the night, not who has achieved more throughout their career.

Well in that case- it will definately be Gaz- running off Lockyer he will get a gazillion more opportunities than Soliola, who gets to run off the play making lol "brilliance" of Vagana.

Gasnier is obviously a lot better.
However, Australia may have two of the best centres in Mark Gasnier and Justin Hodges, up against Iosia Soliola and Steve Matai, but the two NZ centres are very strong defenders. So if they can contain their opposing centres well, then Gasnier and/or Hodges will have quiet games in my opinion.

This is a stupid question because - not even just because of the players mentioned - but because they'll be on opposite sides of the field.
The centre battles will be Gasnier-Matai and Hodges-Soliola...

Vagana wont be five-eighth in attack. Just like last year, that'll be Brent Webb.

So basically he's playing fullback like Lockyer used to.

No, not really. He'll be playing five-eighth in attack and fullback in defence, like Brett Hodgson this year for the Tigers when Marshall was out injured.
Lockyer used to get into second receiver a lot, but the player who was named at five-eighth would actually play at five-eighth. Vagana will be playing inside centre.

So, in attack, Webb will play 5/8 and Vagana inside centre, so who'll fill the floating fullback roll?

No-one, basically. Vagana and Webb will both pop up there occassionally, but there will be no true inside support player running around looking to back up against lazy defenders.

i hate to say it but GASNIER is by a long shot
Soli'ola's good, but very unconsistent
you could argue Gasnier's inconsistent (especially throughout the 2006 finals) but that's usually because he's injured (MY FAVOUTITE TIME OF THE YEAR )

Back Hand, Buccaneer, roosterdude and warrior4life voted for Soliola.
Funnily enough, though, Buccaneer and roosterdude are both Roosters supporters while warrior4life is a New Zealander. I'm not sure about Back Hand, though.

Oh, I didn't know the poll was based on later. In fact, I think the author said something about it being based on Saturday night.
So if you think Gasnier is better now, why did you vote for Soliola?

Of course!!! What would you expect posting on a forum which has a huge Aussie membership (I think more than the other nationalities). Would you expect us to agree with you and say how wonderful we think the Kiwis are and that you will win on Saturday? Grow up and smell the roses and while you're at it, learn to be a little less sensitive when it comes to your national team.
