Just thought I would drop some info on the Bloods and the Crips since we all love our rap its important we know something about those who influence the industry.
Enjoy the read
History
By late 1971 the Avalon Garden Crips and the Inglewood Crips joined forces with the other crip sets. The Crips began to expand to non-Crip gang territories. The L.A. Brims which began in 1969 on the Westside were a powerful street gang, but they were not Crips, and the Blood alliance had not been established. Several gangs which eventually became part of the Blood family had already existed though.
There were also the Piru Street Boys in Compton, the Bishops, Athens Park Boys and the Denver Lanes. The Pirus, which are Bloods now, actually hung out with the Crips prior to 1972. For a short time they were known as the Piru Street Crips, and they also wore the traditional blue rags (bandana) as part of their attire.
During the summer of 1972, the Crips from Compton, and the Pirus had a conflict, and an all out rumble ensued. The Pirus were out numbered, and the Crips prevailed. The Pirus wanted to terminate peaceful relations with the Crips so they turned to the Lueders Park Hustlers for back-up. They agreed and a meeting was called on Piru Street. The Crips had ed an L.A. Brim member earlier that year, so the Pirus asked the Brims to attend the meeting too. Others that attended were the Denver Lanes, and the Bishops1.
How to combat Crip intimidation was discussed along with the creation of a new alliance to counter the Crips. At that time the color of bandannas was not important, but since the Crips were known to wear blue bandanas, the Pirus and the other groups decided to discontinue the wearing of blue bandannas. They decided to take on the wearing of an opposite color, red, and created a united organization which later became known as the Bloods. The Pirus, Brims, Athens Park Boys, and Pueblos decided to unite with the Bloods, and soon after, other groups who had been threatened or attacked by Crips joined the Bloods.

Development
The United Blood Nation, simply called the Bloods, formed in 1993, within the New York City jail system on Rikers Island's GMDC (George Mochen Detention Center), sometimes called C-73. GMDC was used to segregate problem inmates from the rest of the detention center. Prior to this time period, the Latin Kings were the most prevalent and organized gang in the NYC jail system. The Latin Kings, with mostly Hispanic members, were targeting African American inmates with violence. These African American inmates, organized by some of the more violent and charismatic inmates, formed a protection group which they called the United Blood Nation. This United Blood Nation, which was actually a prison gang, was emulating the Bloods street gangs in Los Angeles, California. Several of the leaders of this recently created prison gang formed eight original Blood sets to recruit in their neighborhoods across New York City. These original sets were: Mad Stone Villains (MSV), Valentine Bloods (VB), Nine Trey Gangsters (NTG), Gangster Killer Bloods (GKB), One Eight Trey (183) Bloods, Hit Squad Brims (HSB), Blood Stone Villains (BSV) and Sex, Money and (SMM).
By 1996, thousands of members of the Blood street gang were establishing themselves as a formidable force among gangs and continued a steady drive for recruitment. At this time, the bloods were more violent than other gangs but much less organized. Numerous slashings (razor blade or knife attacks) were reported during robberies and discovered to be initiations into the Bloods. This Blood in ritual became the trademark for the Bloods. Bloods recruited throughout the East Coast and began spreading their drug networks rapidly. Blood gangs can be found in the New York City area, Upper New York State, New Jersey, Baltimore, Hagerstown, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Connecticut to name a few.
Recently, Blood gangs have become a favorite target of Law Enforcement because of their connection to violence. Bloods will commit violence against other Blood sets and there is no direct Regional or National leadership or connections. According to some sources, East Coast Bloods and West Coast Bloods conducted a series of meetings in 1999 and formed the United Blood Nation as a way to align all Blood gangs as one Nation for the purposes of power and unity. This alleged unification resulted in the Bloods referring to themselves as Damu, a Swahili word synonymous for Blood.
Bloods refer to each other as Dawg (DOGS). They will burn an upside down triangular shape, looking like a dog paw, on their upper arm. The three circular burns, usually from a cigarette, can be found on a member of the bloods. Some Bloods will have a tattoo of a dog, usually a bulldog, like the Mack Truck logo. Bloods will also use the acronym M.O.B. (Member of Blood or Money Over es) to identify themselves. This can be seen as a burn scar or sometimes a tattoo. The Bloods have recently, in the year 2000, become more involved and connected to their People Nation affiliation.
These gang members are predominately Black, however, the Bloods have accepted other ethnic groups into the gang. Hispanics, Whites, Greeks, and Chinese member have been identified. In New York City jails, approximately 9% of the Bloods are Hispanic. These individuals engage in activities such as drug sales, robberies, car thefts, extortions, rapes, and s.
To gain acceptance to the gang, individuals must "Blood-in." This means they must spill someone's blood, or have their own blood spilled. There are various ways (fights, slashing, assaults against law enforcement personnel, rapes, robberies, group sex for women blooding-in) to Blood-in, but blood should be spilled. Bloods trace their history to Chicago and Los Angeles, where open territorial fights are commonplace. The Bloods arch rival gang is the Crips. West Coast Bloods will not pronounce the letter "C," and will cross it out when writing.
In New York City, the Bloods have demonstrated a propensity for violent attacks against unknowing victims. Usually, victims are slashed across the face with little or no warning of the attack. Bloods have been identified in areas throughout New York City; Brooklyn's 77Pct. (Crown Heights), Queens' 100 Pct. (Far Rockaway), and Manhattan's 28 Pct. (11th Street).
In New York City jails, the Bloods have developed a reputation as a vicious gang. They have been responsible for over 50% of the stabbings and slashings throughout the Department of Corrections during the period covering April 1, 1997 - August 31, 1997 . The Bloods (approx. 500) have grown in number to where they now outnumber both the Latin Kings (approx. 350) and the Netas (approx. 350).
Bloods refer to the United Blood Nation, which in New York City jails encompasses the these Blood sets: Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods (NTG); Miller Gnagsta Bloods (MGB); Young Bloods; Valentine Bloods (VB); Mad Dog Bloods(MDB); One Eight Trey Bloods (183); Mad Stone Bloods (MSB); Gangsta Killer Bloods (GKB); Five Nine Brims(5-9 Brims); Sex Money Bloods; Blood Stone Villains (BSV). Current intelligence shows the Mad Dog Bloods set is dismantled.
Bloods can be identified by their tattoos; two burned dots over a single burned dot. This represents a dog's paw—Bloods refer to themselves as "dogs." Additionally, Bloods were colors of red, or clothing identified with the basketball team the Chicago Bulls.
Besides their tattoos and clothing, the Bloods display signs and speak in codes. One such sign is to curl the thumb and index finger until the meet to from a circle. The three remaining finger are extended straight-out. This hand is then placed against the stomach area, palm of the hand face down with thumb and index finger touching the stomach (solar plexus area). Next, the hand is moved in a circular motion, turning the palm of the hand face up, touching the pinkie finger and the wrist to the mid-sto mach area.
As this process is completed, a Blood will say "031," which translates to "I have love four you, Blood." The Bloods change their codes on a regular basis, and generally revert from new codes to old. Some codes are changed in their entirety. The current listing of Bloods codes is 16 pages in length. B.L.O.O.D (Blood Love Overcomes Our Depressions)

The Bloods organizational structure is:
101 First Superior (this is the leader). His function is to oversee the set. This individual acts as the disciplinary officer.
102 Second Superior Functions to assist and advise the First Superior and carry out the First superior's duties in his absence.
103 Minister of Defense Functions to provide strategies and information to the First Superior for the operations of the set.
104 Minister of Information Provides information concerning the set and its enemies.
105 Head of Security Provides weapons and discipline to all members of the set.
106 Commanding Officer Dictates orders as specified by the Superior.
107 Captain Disseminates orders amongst the Lieutenants.
108 Head Lieutenant Assists and advises the Captain, and carries out the Captain's duties in his absence.
109 Lieutenant Ensures the principal soldiers carry out orders as issued by the Captain.
110 Principal Soldier Complies with orders from Lieutenants, and to keep banging (fighting the enemy) at all times.
In general, every Bloods' function is to keep banging at all times. No Blood is better than the next. Each Blood is a soldier, putting in work (fighting), maintaining the superiority of all Bloods over their enemies.
Each set follow this structure, with an individual identified for each position. Because there are many different sets, the Blood leadership in the streets of New York is not strong. Different boroughs or areas are under different sets. In the jails, l eadership is strong, however individuals do attempt to form new sets so that they can assume leadership. This is however, frowned upon by the existing sets.

The Bloods concepts of war are:
Always listen before you talk, look before you walk, and observe before you stalk.
In war, you must follow the commands of the higher rank, who is designated such because they are more, if not, better informed than you.
Never make important decisions while angry, because an intemperate nature can cause one to run into a brick wall. Allow time to rationalize.
What is pain to a warrior is but a privilege, pain, and handling pain are measures of a warrior, for to know victory is to know defeat.
The injuries that you inflict upon the enemy should be considered such a vicious act of terrorism ,that the damage inflicted causes the enemy to never consider revenge.
Never allow the enemy to live in your midst, because one day he may rise up to repay you for the mistake.
One must be a fox to recognize a trap, and a lion to fight and intimidate the enemy.
The best defense is often times a good offense.
There is no greater sin in war than ignorance.
War has no room for diplomacy, war is outright vicious.
Beware those around you who shout out the most, yet find time to talk during conflict. These individuals will reason with enemy.
In war, strive for rendering the enemy harmless, disrupting the enemy's alliances, and attacking before you are attacked.
Silence and observation are major weapons in defense.
During war, or peace, never allow you priorities to be misguided.
Bloods have a view of themselves as gangster, and as such, many have taken gang names (AKAs)of organized crime embers; Capone, Nitti, Baby Face Nel, Gambion, Scar Face.
Bloods use the letters "OG" when writing. OG is short for "original gangster."
The weapon of choice for this gang are razors, which the Bloods have proven to be experts at using. In the streets of New York, Bloods carry razor blades in their pockets, and in the jails, they have mastered the technique of carrying razors in their or mouth
Thats a very interesting read! Hey Pimpsnz do they still have the Bloods and Crips in NZ?

Iam not sure about the Crips but the Bloods still roam South Auckland, there seems to be other tinny bopper gangs popping up now around Auckland.
In Wellington a couple of Bopper gangs called "Strathmore 44" "Darksiders" and RSB "Respect Samoan Bloods" have become active, the Darksiders are like children of the Black Power and Stratmore44 are in Wellington City.
Funny you asked that because I was just thinking about this fight between a South Auckland Blood and a Mongrel Mob Prospect at the UB40 concert recently in Wellington.
This Prospect was in a circle with some patched Black members about 4 of them and this Blood from South Aux was like standing in the circle eye balling the prospect, LOL, he didnt give a S___ about the Patch members.
Anyway this Prospect pulled his red flannel shirt open to reveal his Black Power Prospect T Shirt at this blood, LMFAO, and this Blood just ripped him to bits infront of the Patch members , LOL, the blood was my mates cousin and it was funny because my mate saw his cousin eyeballing and offered him a pen and he said as a joke "Take this you could stab someone" , LOL, guess what, his cousin took it and said seriously "thanks for looking out" LOL me and my mate looked at each other like  he was like for reals gonna use it.
Back to the story, LOL, the patched members didnt help the prospect as is the situation untill they become bonafide patch members themeselves, so the prospect got the crack from my mates cousin.
Me and my mate dumbed his cousin but when we were out clubbing later that nite we heard someone was stabed with a pen, LMFAO  it was him  I was telling my mate he was a accessory to assault since he gave his cousin the assault weapon, LOL, it was a great nite and UB40 rocked the house.

Thanks for the rep man, I don't deserve it though ;) To be honest with you, I am a criminoligist freak, I love all facets of criminal manner and life. I have read so many books on this issue and one of my greatest interests is gang-warfare. I haven't read too much into the Crips and Bloods before, which is why I appreciate your posts because it really opened up my perspective as to how 'they' came to be. Speaking about the prevalence of Crips and Bloods in NZ, some 'kids' have come over from NZ and brought their gang mentality here. Which is a shame because gangs are like mortgages, the more you put in the harder it is to get out. I usually go to an R&B spot in the City and you see the 'Bloods' in the corner all 'ragged up'. One of these Wanksta's hit on my girlfriend some months back now, and when I hit him up to p:ss off, he sucker punched me. I turned around and converted him from a 'Blood' to 'Bleeding', as I worked this cat over, his gang mates bailed out the club.

Stanley Williams
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stanley Tookie Williams III (December 29, 1953 – December 13, 2005), was an early leader of the Crips, a notorious American street gang which had its roots in South Central Los Angeles in 1969. In December 2005 he was executed for the 1979 s of Albert Owens, Yen-Yi Yang, Tsai-Shai Lin, and Yee-Chen Lin.
While in prison, Williams refused to aid police investigations with any information against his gang, and was implicated in attacks on guards and other inmates as well as multiple escape plots. In 1993, Williams began making changes in his behavior, and became an anti-gang activist while on Death Row in California. Although he continued to refuse to assist police in their gang investigations, he renounced his gang affiliation and apologized for the Crips' founding, while maintaining his innocence of the crimes for which he was convicted. He co-wrote children's books and participated in efforts intended to prevent youths from joining gangs. [1] A 2004 biographical TV-movie entitled Redemption: The Stan Tookie Williams Story featured Jamie Foxx as Williams.
On December 13, 2005, Williams was executed by lethal injection amidst debate over the death penalty and whether his anti-gang advocacy in prison represented genuine atonement.
Early life
Born to a 17-year-old mother in New Orleans, Louisiana, Williams moved to the impoverished South Central Los Angeles neighborhood when he was 6, where he made a name for himself for being a fighter and a "general" on the streets of South Central's West Side. He attended Washington High School, but was expelled and did not graduate. [2] People mistakenly believe that "Tookie" was a nickname, but it was in fact his given middle name, which was shared by Williams and his son, Stanley T. Williams Jr. His nickname was Big Took. He got the name after he became very muscular.

Formation of the Crips
The eastern side Crips were formed by Raymond "Truck" Washington in 1969. Williams joined Washington in 1971, forming the west side Crips. According to many of the original members of the gang, it was initially started to eliminate all street gangs. Williams said "we started out—at least my intent was to, in a sense—address all of the so-called neighboring gangs in the area and to put, in a sense—I thought I can cleanse the neighborhood of all these, you know, marauding gangs. But I was totally wrong. And eventually, we morphed into the monster we were addressing."[3] According to one version, the original name of the gang was the word Cribs from the first name of the gang, the Avenue Babies, and a reference to their youthfulness.
Crimes
Williams was convicted of two separate robbery/s in 1979. Williams always maintained his innocence, though subsequent court reviews concluded that there was no compelling reason to grant a retrial.[4]
Court transcripts state that [5], Stanley Williams met with a man who is only identified in court documents as "Darryl" late sometime on Tuesday evening, February 27, 1979. Williams introduced Darryl to a friend of his, Alfred Coward, a.k.a. "Blackie", a reference to his African American heritage.
A time after the initial meeting, Darryl, driving a brown station wagon and accompanied by Williams, drove to the home of James Garret. Coward followed the two in his 1969 Cadillac. Williams frequently stayed with Garret, and kept some of his personal effects at that location including a 12-gauge shotgun. Williams went into the Garret residence, and in about ten minutes returned with the shotgun.
The three men then went to the home of Tony Sims, where they discussed where in Pomona, California they could go to make some money. Afterward, they went to another residence, where Williams left the others for a period of time. Upon returning, Williams had a .22 caliber pistol, which he placed in the station wagon. Williams then suggested that they should all go to Pomona. Darryl and Williams got into the station wagon, Coward and Sims got into the Cadillac, and shortly thereafter they were on the freeway headed toward Pomona.
Botched robbery
Both vehicles exited the freeway in the vicinity of Whittier Boulevard, where they drove to a nearby Stop-N-Go market. Darryl and Sims, at the request of Williams, entered the store with the apparent intention of robbing it. Darryl was carrying the .22 pistol that Williams had deposited in the station wagon earlier.
Johnny Garcia, the clerk on duty at the Stop-N-Go at the time, testified that he was just finishing up mopping the floor, and noticed a station wagon, along with four black men standing outside the door of the store. Sims testified that he and Darryl entered the market, after which Sims walked to the back of the store while Darryl approached Garcia and asked for a cigarette. Garcia provided and lit one for him. Sims then "walked back from the back ‘cause there was somebody in there and just walked out the door and got back the car with, uh, Blackie. And then we left."
Williams reportedly became very unhappy that Darryl and Sims did not follow through on the plan. He then told the men that they would find another place to rob, and that they would all go inside so he could demonstrate to them how a robbery was done.

The 7-Eleven
Transcripts show that next Coward and Sims followed Williams and Darryl to the 7-Eleven market located at 10437 Whittier Boulevard, near Whittier, California. The store clerk, twenty-six year old Albert Lewis Owens, was sweeping the store parking lot. When Darryl and Sims entered the 7-Eleven, Owens put the broom and dustpan he was using on the hood of his car and followed them into the store. Williams and Coward followed Owens into the store.
Court records show that as Darryl and Sims walked to the counter area to take money from the register, Williams walked behind Owens, pulled the sawed-off shotgun from under his jacket and told Owens to “shut up and keep walking.” While pointing the shotgun at Owens’ back, Williams directed him to a back storage room and ordered him to lie down. Coward said that he next heard the sound of a round being chambered into the shotgun. He then heard a shot and glass breaking, followed by two more shots. Records show that Williams shot out a security monitor and then killed Owens, shooting him twice in the back at point blank range as he lay prone on the storage room floor.
Williams, Darryl, Coward, and Sims then fled in the two cars and returned home to Los Angeles. They had netted approximately $120 in the robbery. Once back in Los Angeles, Sims asked Williams why he had shot Owens. Williams said that he “didn’t want to leave any witnesses.” Williams also said he killed Owens “because he was white and he was killing all white people.” Coward testified that Williams had bragged about the shooting, stating, “You should have heard the way he sounded when I shot him,” as he made gurgling or growling noises and laughed about Owens’ death.

The Brookhaven Motel s
The Yang family, husband seventy-six year old Yen-Yi Yang, and wife sixty-three year old Tsai-Shai C. Yang, were immigrants from Taiwan. They ran the Brookhaven Motel located at 10411 South Vermont Avenue in South Central Los Angeles along with their forty-three year old daughter, Yu-Chin Yang Lin, and son Robert. Yu-Chin had recently joined them from Taiwan.
According to court transcripts, at approximately 5:00 am on March 11, 1979, Stanley Williams entered the Brookhaven Motel lobby and then broke down the door that led to the private office. Inside the office, Williams shot and killed Yen-Yi, Tsai-Shai, and Yu-Chin, after which he emptied the cash register and fled the scene.
Robert, asleep with his wife in their bedroom at the motel, was awakened by the sound of somebody breaking down the door to the motel’s office. Shortly thereafter he heard a female scream, followed by gunshots. Robert entered the motel office and found that his mother, his sister, and his father had all been shot; the cash register was empty. It was later determined that the Brookhaven incident netted Stanley Williams approximately one hundred dollars.
The forensic pathologist testified that Yen-Yi Yang suffered two close range shotgun wounds, one to his left arm and abdomen, and one to the lower left chest. Tsai-Shai also received two close range wounds, one to the tailbone, and the other to the front of the abdomen, entering at the navel. Yu-Chin Lin was shot once in the upper left face area at a distance of a few feet.
Witnesses testified that Williams referred to the victims in conversations with friends as "Buddha-heads", a derogatory term for Asians.

Raymond Washington
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Raymond Lee Washington (August 15, 1953 – August 9, 1979) was the founder of a Los Angeles, California street gang, which eventually would become known as the Crips, one of the most notorious and violent gangs in United States history.
Raymond Washington was born in Texas. When he was three years old, his family relocated to 76th Street, on the east side of South-Central Los Angeles. In 1969, 15-year-old Raymond Washington, then a student at John C. Fremont High School, organized a group of neighborhood friends and founded a gang known as the "Baby Avenues". Washington’s gang was named in admiration of a prominent 1960s gang led by Craig and Robert Munson, named "The Avenue Boys".
The Baby Avenues later changed their name to the "Avenue Cribs", and by 1971 the name had evolved to become the "Crips". Stanley Tookie Williams joined the gang in 1971 and formed the "Westside Crips". Together, Washington and Williams played instrumental roles in expanding the Crips to other territories in Southern California.
Washington was shot and killed by a rival gang in 1979, five months after Williams' arrest for a quadruple . Washington’s er(s) have never been arrested, and the homicide remains an open case.

History of the Crips
The Crips were founded by Raymond Washington and Stanley Williams. Williams argued that this was after the two became fed up with random violence in their neighborhood. Law enforcement officials dispute this, pointing to the extremely large number of violent crimes involving the gang members, even in early years.
The original name of the gang founded by Raymond Washington in 1969 at the age of 15 was the Baby Avenues, derived from a gang of older boys in the 1960s, named the Avenue Boys with their turf on Central Avenue in East Los Angeles. This evolved to Avenue Cribs and then Cribs as nicknames for the age of the members. The name Crips was first introduced in the Los Angeles Sentinel newspaper in a description by crime victims of young men with canes, as if they were crippled (though there is some discussion that it may have initially been a simple spelling mistake). The name stuck.
Stanley "Tookie" Williams co-founded the gang in 1971, and started his own gang called the Westside Crips. The Crips became popular throughout southern Los Angeles as more youth gangs joined it; at one point they outnumbered non-Crip gangs by 3 to 1. In response, some of the besieged smaller gangs formed an alliance that later became the Bloods.
Contrary to popular misconception, Crip sets do not feud solely with Bloods, but also other Crip sets — for example, the Rollin' 60s and 83rd Street Gangster Crips ("Eight-Tray") have been rivals since 1979, and their rivalry is currently the largest in L.A.
[edit]
Expansion
In the 1980s, Crips moved into the sale of crack, a form of the drug cocaine. It was invented by developing a cheaper process for extracting the stimulant from the coca plant. Previously, the only available form was an expensive powder, leading to the traditional image of cocaine as a status symbol for the wealthy hedonist. Inexpensive and highly-addictive crack could be marketed by the Crips to lower-income brackets.
The Crips made enormous profits from selling crack and gathered the capital to advance themselves in the illicit markets. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s the Crips developed intricate networks and a respected reputation with other gangs across America and neighboring countries.
To stem violence between the Crips and Bloods, a peace treaty was recently negotiated, most notably in Watts, the treaty being largely based upon the ideals laid forth by original Crip co-founder Stanley Tookie Williams in his "Tookie Protocol For Peace". Though violence levels have been reduced somewhat after the conclusion of this peace treaty, gangland killings and warfare persist in heavily gang-controlled areas.
[edit]
Gang identification
For many years, Crips were characterized by their tendency to wear blue in order to easily identify each other. One suggested origin of the selected color is traced to the school colors of Washington High School in South L.A.Another theory is the Co-Founder, Stanley "Tookie" Williams, had a good and close friend called "Buddha", who wore blue shirts, khakis, shoes, and a blue bandana from his back left pocket. When Buddha died, Tookie made blue the Crip color in honor of Buddha. A particular set of Crips, the Grape Street Crips, have been known to wear purple in addition to blue. The GSCs are separated into three sub-sets, the nine;139th street, the Foe;134th street, and the deuce;132nd street in the city of Gardena, California and have been known to wear dark-green, the city color of Gardena, in addition to blue to show that the Shotgun Crips are from Gardena. Crips also wear blue bandanas and British Knights sport shoes (using the company moniker BK, which the Crips use as a backronym meaning "Blood Killas"). They usually refer derisively to their rival, the Bloods, as "slobs."
In more recent years, however, the Crips have begun to cease the use of colors as a means of identification, since it is likely to draw attention from police. Methods such as the use of college sport team jerseys and hats are sometimes used, but in general, what set a certain gang member claims can be determined solely by their tattoos.
